Traverse City, MI
Jill has a deep commitment to the local body of Christ and has spent 20 years on staff at her home church. Her love for the Lord and her love for His people has opened opportunities for her to serve in various ministries throughout the years, including women’s ministry director, care group director, leadership development and – most recently – FIC ministry director (8 years). As a licensed counselor, she has been able to speak into many lives and help people and families through difficult and painful places and life transitions. Helping others discover their true identity in Christ, accept His healing grace, find freedom in their spiritual walk and become healthy disciples is truly her life mission.
In 2001 their church hosted a Freedom Conference with Neil Anderson, in 2010 Jill completed the CFMA training and helped to develop a CFM in the local community. It is her prayer that by joining FIC staff, doors will be opened to share with others how to implement the freedom message into the “DNA” of the church. Jill also serves as the Regional Prayer Coordinator for the Northeast region and is team leader of the newly formed Care and Training ministry branch.
Jill and Dennis were married in 1983 and raised their three children (who are all married) in Northern Michigan. They are now enjoying grand-parenting four grandkids and traveling to visit family and friends. Dennis has his own financial business in Traverse City and enjoys sharing in the FIC ministry – especially the travel to conferences and retreats!
Gay Nell Scarborough
Gay Nell Scarborough
Gay Nell was born in Pittsburgh PA, but she got to Texas as quick as she could (age 6 mos.). She grew up in a loving home and came to Christ at age 17 at a Young Life Camp. She married in 1972, and they discerned early on, not so much a “call” to ministry, as we are all called, but a “separation unto the Gospel” as Paul describes. She served with her husband Tom in many ministry capacities for over 40 years;
Young Life Volunteers, Austin, TX – 1970-75
Young Life Staff, Austin and Conroe, TX – 1976-81
Grace Covenant Church, Youth, Austin, TX – 1982
T Bar M Camp and Conference Center, New Braunfels, TX – 1983-87
Self-Employed Discipleship Counselors with FICM, Austin, TX – 1988-93
Church Dynamics International, National FICM Coordinators, Austin, TX – 1994-2002
Freedom in Christ Ministries, Austin & Dallas, TX – 2002-Present
Gay Nell serves FICM as the Director of our Community Freedom Ministry Associates. In over 25 years with FICM she has had the privilege of seeing thousands of changed lives across the US and around the world. Her heart is for Discipleship in a reproductive model. For decades her priority has been to resource pastors, church leaders, missionaries, para-church ministries and lay people so they may be able to teach others and see them established free in Christ. Never before has there been such a great need for spiritual leaders who are free in Christ and able to minister that freedom to others.
They raised their 4 grown children with these truths and are now doing so with their 8 grandchildren.
“Her desire for over 10 years has been to bring oversight to the ever expanding Community Freedom Ministry Associate Strategy, pouring into the next generations that will carry this ministry forward across the US and around the world. She currently resides in Dallas and has sought to develop this area as a Community Freedom Ministry model and regional center for Freedom in Christ Ministries.”
Nathaniel was saved in 2014 after the passing of a high school classmate and attending a youth conference in Saratoga, NY. Shortly after coming to Christ he entered ministry as a worship leader for his youth group and guest preaching. As he has grown in his faith, his heart for ministry has also grown.
Over a year after being asked to pursue becoming a CFMA by his pastor, the Lord has revealed to him a calling to be further involved in FICM.
He will be assisting FICM with social media and content creation. His heart is to encourage and assist CFM’s so they can grow, and to reach the Millennial and Z generations for the message of Freedom In Christ.
Nathaniel is looking forward to marrying his fiancée, Cailin, in July of 2020. He owns a home in Schenectady, NY, and for fun, he plays guitar and writes for his blogs parableliving.com and the2ndwork.com.

President Dan Studt
Syracuse, New York
Dan Studt is the President of Freedom in Christ Ministries-USA.
He served in pastoral ministry for 25 years as a youth and family pastor, and then as a church planter. In those roles, he loved developing leaders, leading mission trips, and helping people learn how to live freely submitted to God and His Word, so that the light of Christ may shine brightly in this world through His Church.
In addition, Dan has worked in school and hospital settings utilizing his degree in psychology. It was in those settings the Lord called and confirmed his call to full-time ministry in order to integrate the spiritual aspects of wholeness and healing into his work with people. Through being personally impacted by Freedom in Christ Ministries in the mid-nineties, to teaching the biblical principles in churches throughout the years, Dan has not only utilized the Ministry’s materials, but also applied them personally.
Rich Miller, President of FICM USA from 2006 to 2019, invited Dan to become the Northeast Director of FICM in October, 2009. He served voluntarily in that role until planting Praxis Church in January 2016 when he then joined FICM Field Staff on a part-time basis. During these years, Dan built a team of FICM leaders in the Northeast who will be continuing the ministry there as Dan steps into the role of President of FICM-USA effective May 20th, 2019.
Dan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Messiah College (1993) and a Master of Divinity degree at Palmer Theological Seminary (then Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary) in 1999.
Dan enjoys teaching FICM seminars and leading people through The Steps to Freedom in Christ. His primary focus in serving as President will be to promote and develop leaders across the nation to take the message of freedom into churches across the country.
Dan and his wife Jen have four children and currently live near Syracuse, NY with their two teen sons, Elijah and Jacob. Jen is an elementary teacher at Faith Heritage Christian School. Abigail (older daughter) married Adam and moved to Louisville where she serves as a nurse while Adam studies for his Master of Divinity degree. Rebecca (younger daughter) is a junior at Liberty University. Dan enjoys outdoor fitness activities including running and snowshoeing, and especially loves hiking the Adirondack high peaks with Elijah and Jacob.
Amanda has been a CFMA since 2015, actively ministering in her community with FICM. She is currently teaching Victory over the Darkness in her community, has an online Freedom Tribe that reaches ladies across the country, and with her husband has a Freedom Couples Brunch that is walking through the new Freedom in Christ Course. These classes have provided many opportunities for one to one mentoring and through the years, Amanda has seen the Lord set people free who now want to disciple others to walk free in Christ. Amanda and her husband Valiant live in Yoakum, TX with three active sons.
Paul and Joyce Travis
Paul and Joyce Travis have been on staff with Freedom in Christ Ministries since 1995. They conduct Finding Freedom in Christ Seminars, Setting Your Church, Marriage, or Ministry Free Retreats: Breaking the Bondage of Legalism Seminars, Parenting Seminars and training in Discipleship Counseling. They also spend much time in personal discipleship counseling.
Paul graduated from the London Bible College, and received his theological degree from the London Theological Seminary in Ontario Canada. He soon started churches and was a pastor for thirty-one years. After the death of his wife, he received counseling and counseling training. He then began counseling full-time, as director of Christ Centered Counseling in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
Throughout his life and ministry, he has experienced much of what he now sees as legalism. He realizes how he has been a spiritual performer, driven to work hard for God – believing that he had to do right, look right, be right in order to be all right with God. With this in mind, he has co-authored a book entitled: Breaking the Bondage of Legalism.
Joyce has always been interested and involved in Christian work. She was instrumental in starting the Christian Women’s Club in Hendersonville, North Carolina and worked in leadership capacity for ten years. After losing her husband, she became office manager of Christ-Centered Counseling. In 1989, she and Paul were married, and after a short time they joined Freedom in Christ Ministries. This ministry has taken them to over 100 churches in 26 states, D.C., Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Northern Ireland, and the U.K.
Paul and Joyce have four married sons, and enjoy living near most of their eight grandchildren.
While Len and I were serving with City Team Ministries, we began to realize the power of His Truth to impact lives after discovering and beginning to use the Who I am in Christ bookmarks. We later moved from California to Tennessee, where we attended a Discipleship Counseling Conference presented by Neil Anderson. We then began meeting with Dr. Anderson once a month to continue learning. We knew this was the ministry God was calling us to.
As we realized more and more the powerful impact of God’s truths in our lives, we began to teach classes and take people through the Steps to Freedom in Christ. What a joy, blessing and honor it is to walk together with one of His children as they discover His love for him/her and what He says about who he/she is in Christ.
We became Community Freedom Ministry Associates after completing FICM’s online university. Teaching the message of freedom in Christ, whether in a classroom setting or one-on-one, is truly fulfilling. Taking people through the Steps to Freedom in Christ is amazing – life-changing for them and for us. It is a special joy as those whom the Son sets free, declare that they want to learn how to “set the captives free”. Training others to share the message of freedom in Christ, to take people through the Steps and then train others to do the same is an incredible honor.
Serving as field staff with Freedom in Christ Ministries, being part of this amazing family…..thank You Lord!
